PAOLO VITALE
After classical studies in Catania, he graduated with honours in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic and completed a master's degree in Museography on strategic design in archaeological areas with a thesis on the refurbishment of 12 rooms of the Gregorian Etruscan Museum at the Vatican Museums in Rome.
Since 2014 he has been working alongside various directors (Davide Garattini Raimondi, Igor Pison, Victor Garcia Sierra, Oscar Cecchi, Andrea Binetti) for whom he has designed sets and lighting for operas, operettas and musicals, working in Italy and abroad (La Fenice, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Jerusalem Opera, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste, Teatro Comunale di Piacenza, Teatro Comunale di Sassari, Festival della Valle d'Itria, Luglio Musicale Trapanese, Sarzana Opera Festival, Zamora Little Opera, Piccolo Festival del Friuli Venezia Giulia...).
In 2018 and 2019, he worked alongside Katia Ricciarelli for the opening productions of the Teatro Verdi in Trieste (´I Puritani, Turandot and Aida´).
In 2020 he signed the lights of Bia. Un passo nuovo, una parola propria' (A New Step, A Word of One's Own), the show conceived by ToTeam that won the Macerata Opera 4.0 competition organised by the Macerata Opera Festival.
In 2022 he designed the sets and lights for Lakmè for the season opening of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège. From March 2021 to June 2023, he was director of set design at the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste and since January 2024 he has been director of set design at the Piccolo Opera Festival del Friuli Venezia Giulia.
In addition to his career as a set designer, since 2010 he has worked as an architect, publicist journalist and theatre critic, becoming, in 2016, the editor of the online publications Central Palc (centralpalc.com) and Musical! (rivistamusical.com).
When he is not in the theatre or on construction sites, he grows plants in his home in Monza and strokes cats.
